Like a massive earthquake, it doesn’t just shake things up — it reshapes the entire city. The Aftermath: A City Rewired by Trauma Suddenly, everything that felt safe, familiar, and home… feels dangerous. The very systems built to protect you begin to malfunction. Here's how: 🧠 City Hall (Default Mode Network) This is where your sense of self and connection lives — where you remember who you are and how you relate to others. After trauma: City Hall goes dark. You feel disconnected from your identity. You don't recognize yourself. The world feels foreign, even among friends and family. 🧠 Emergency Dispatch Center (Amygdala) This is the alarm system — the place that alerts the city when danger is near. After trauma: The alarms get stuck on high alert. Every knock at the door, every friendly face, every invitation feels like a setup. Even joy feels like a trap. 🧠 The City Planner (Prefrontal Cortex) This is the logic hub — where decisions get made and plans are drawn. After trauma: The city planner hides in the bunker. Emotion and fear take over. You can't think straight. You can't trust people, even when they're safe. You push them away… to survive. 🧠 The Archives (Hippocampus) The archives help you remember what's past and what's present. After trauma: The records are soaked and scrambled. Time blurs. You relive the past as if it’s happening now — again and again. There is no “then,” only “still.” 🧠 The Town Square (Oxytocin) This is where people gather — where bonds are built and love is shared. After trauma: The square is empty. The brain stops producing oxytocin, the bonding hormone. Even when someone reaches out with love, your brain sees a threat. Addiction: The False Contractor Addiction promises to rebuild the city — fast. It shows up like a contractor with smooth talk and quick solutions. And for a moment, it feels like it works: - The alarms quiet down. - The fear dulls. - The pain fades into the background. But make no mistake: addiction is not here to restore — it’s here to exploit. 🚧 At the Dispatch Center… Addiction cuts the wires to the sirens — not to fix them, but to shut them up. Danger still exists, but now you don’t feel it… until it’s too late. 🚧 In the Planner’s Office… Addiction locks the city planner in the basement. No permits, no blueprints, just chaos. Decisions become impulsive, reactive, and self-destructive. 🚧 In the Archives… Addiction rips out the timeline. Blackouts, memory gaps, and distorted perception keep you stuck in a loop with no way out. 🚧 In City Hall… Addiction appoints a new mayor: Shame. You no longer see yourself as a survivor. You wear the label “addict.” Hope and identity disappear from the ballot. 🚧 In the Town Square… Addiction replaces connection with counterfeit comfort. Instead of community, there’s isolation. Instead of love, there’s a high. Instead of healing, there’s hiding. The Good News: Trauma City Can Be Rebuilt And this time, the work can be real. It won’t be fast. It won’t be easy. But it will be worth it.
